Estadio Municipal de Lucena

Lucena Municipal Stadium is conceived as a sports infrastructure of contained scale yet resolved with the standards of larger-capacity stadiums, both in its urban implementation and structural language. The complex is organized around a large horizontal piece housing the main stand and a series of vertical towers designed to integrate the sports lighting, creating a clear, lightweight, and easily recognizable composition in the peripheral landscape of Lucena. The proposal was developed by Fenwick Iribarren after winning the public competition held in 2005, designing a building capable of growing in phases and adapting to future expansions.

From a structural perspective, the project stands out for its use of a rational and modular solution, based on a main reinforced concrete stand complemented by lightweight metal elements in the roof coverings and cantilevers. The structure works through a combination of portal frames and cantilever brackets that visually free the front of the stands and optimize the lower circulation areas, simultaneously ensuring rigidity, durability, and constructive economy.

One of the most relevant aspects of the project is its territorial integration. The stadium is built on former olive grove land and adapts its geometry to the existing topography, minimizing earthworks and promoting a natural relationship between architecture and landscape. This sensitivity to the surroundings results in a sober and tectonic image, where the structure is not hidden but actively participates in the expression of the building. The design also incorporates a contemporary vision of sports architecture, conceiving the stadium as a multifunctional infrastructure prepared to host complementary uses—commercial, cultural, and leisure—that allow maximizing its activity and economic viability beyond match days.
